Project Complete

I just finished one of the largest undertakings I’ve ever been involved with when it comes to Web design by launching a newly designed KU School of Engineering site.  The project started in the summer of 2009 and involved migrating or at least assisting in migrating every School of Engineering academic—and some research—sites to a new template design given by the University.  This totaled about ten sites that needed to be migrated.

I was able to finish the redesign on all but two before the “deadline” of January 2010, but there two sites I wasn’t able to finish.  One of those sites was migrated in October, and now the last one, the main School of Engineering site was migrated on Saturday.

It just feels so good to be done with them now.  I finally get to start focusing on other projects that went stale in the intervening months such as upgrading all of our backend code to enable a host of features that are sorely in need, and getting our Red Hat servers up to 6.0.  It will be very nice to start with a fresh Website, code, and systems (Python 2.6postgresql 8.4, and emacs 23 woohoo).  Hopefully this will help get me out of the work funk I have been in, and motivate me to get up in the morning.
